Workaholics, Faster Ways to Get Things Done, Hybrid Jobs

Happy Monday!

Here is 1 Quote, 2 Scheduling Thoughts and 3 Interesting jobs to start your week…

1. Quote

In the end, workaholics don’t actually accomplish more than nonworkaholics. They may claim to be perfectionists, but that just means they’re wasting time fixating on inconsequential details instead of moving on to the next task. Workaholics aren’t heroes. They don’t save the day, they just use it up. The real hero is already home because she figured out a faster way to get things done.

2. Scheduling Thoughts

  • Plans and schedules can be the biggest constraints of a project. Constraints consume time, money and resources. For example, time, money, and resources can be wasted if only one planner can update the plan in Primavera P6 for ten project managers. People sit around waiting for the planner's or scheduler's time. Remove the constraint with automation or democratizing the inputs.

  • The fastest way to save time is to eliminate. In order to optimize, you must figure out what needs to be optimized and how to do it. You only need to identify what you want to eliminate. A top area to look at is reporting. Unused reports should be stopped. My go-to process is a quarterly "let it go" exercise. Pick two to three non-value-adding tasks and stop doing them. In a team environment, this is extremely effective.
