Welcome back to Beyond Deadlines newsletter—a free perk for people looking to improve in Planning and Scheduling. Each week, we provide tactics, prompts, jobs and food for thought. We want you to succeed today, tomorrow and throughout the rest of your career.

All goal setting must be immediately followed by both the development of a plan, and massive and consistent action toward its fulfillment.

I once had a super tell me to my face:
"I don't need your schedule. I know what my guys are doing."
That stung. But he wasn't wrong to push back.
I had handed him a schedule I built without him. Of course he didn't trust it.
There are two types of difficult superintendents. Both will kill your update cycle if you don't handle them right.
Type 1: The Skeptic
Decades in the field. Builds by instinct. Your critical path looks like someone's homework project.
He won't argue with you. He'll just stop engaging.
The fix: Stop trying to prove the schedule is right. Ask him how the work gets done. Build the logic from his answers.
A schedule he helped create is a schedule he'll defend.
Type 2: The Ghost
Never ignores you on purpose. He's just always fighting something more urgent than your percent complete questions.
You follow up. He gives you round numbers. Your update reflects nothing real.
The fix: Remove the friction. Go to him. Bring something he can mark up in two minutes.
Make the update feel like a conversation, not admin work.
The truth behind both types is the same.
You can't beat a superintendent by being right. You win by being useful to him.
When the schedule helps him manage his day, he'll protect it. When it doesn't, he'll work around it.
Try this: Pick the one superintendent who gives you the hardest time. Spend 20 minutes with him before your next update cycle. Not about the schedule. About how he sees the next 30 days.
Then go build around that.
Your Retirement Savings Need to Outlast You
Most retirement plans underestimate two things: how long your savings need to last, and how quietly inflation erodes them along the way.
The 15-Minute Retirement Plan helps you close both gaps with practical guidance on longevity risk, purchasing power, and building a financial plan that doesn't run out before you do.
